History of Church
The Met was established some 30 years ago when some local people felt the need for a church without denominational labels where people from all backgrounds would be welcome. The church held its meetings in a portacabin for 20 years until it opened the current building in 2001. The word ‘Metropolitan’ means city-wide, reflecting the desire of the church to be open to people from all walks of life. We are non-denominational in the sense that we don’t affiliate under a particular label, but are Christians who follow Jesus and seek to live out authentic faith in the world by walking in God’s grace and being on a journey of transformation with him. Our congregation is made up of Catholics and Protestants, people from no particular religious backgrounds, as well as those from other nations and cultures.

Services
Through the week we also meet on Wednesdays at 8pm to study the Bible and learn in fellowship together. These usually take an inductive format, with opportunity to engage and ask questions/give comment about the text. We work our way through one Bible book at a time, one chapter at a time, one verse at a time.
There are also various opportunities for prayer and friendship activities through the week.

What’s it all about?
‘What is this all about?’ can be a loaded question that combines a few questions – what is church? Why do we do church? However, these questions are encompassed by just one – what does it mean to be a Christian?
The word Christian originated centuries ago after Jesus died and became the term given to His followers. The Greek word literally translates as ‘Christlike’. It was given to the early followers of Jesus, and the name has stuck to this day. A good way to describe it is by saying what it is not. It is not about keeping rules and regulations, performing rituals, or even going to church, none of which are bad. It is first and foremost about having a relationship with our Creator, God.
Jesus said that knowing Him is the doorway to that relationship and the only way to get to know God is through Him. Millions of people today have discovered this door, by accepting Jesus into their lives as their Lord and Saviour and embarking on a relationship with God for this life and for the life hereafter. In this way we declare ourselves ‘Christians’.
